Science Advances has published a study by an International team which comprises a number of Italian researchers.

High-temperature superconductivityis very much an open challenge to researchers in the field of condensed matter physics all over the world. Thirty years after the discovery of superconductivity in copper oxides, the several aspects that still need to be clarified are addressed through different and complementary approaches and techniques. Now, an innovative contribution has been given by an international team that has put together eleven science institutions in six countries.

The result of the experiment published in Nature Communications paves the way for investigations that can shed new light on photochemical processes.

“Shooting the movie” of a photochemical reaction, interpreting its hidden details with the help of a computer: this is what has been done, thanks to the extraordinary capabilities of the FERMI free electron laser source in Trieste, by a research team composed of the Universities of Uppsala and Gothenburg in Sweden, the Institut Ruđer Bošković of Zagreb, the Elettra-FERMI Laboratory, the University of Trieste and the Laboratory of Physical Chemistry, Matter and Radiation in Paris. The study was published in Nature Communications.

The exceptional study of an Italian team led by “Sapienza Università di Roma” has been made possible by non-invasive techniques realized with synchrotron light in Trieste. The research has been published on Scientific Reports

Fossil records enable a detailed reconstruction of our planet’s history and of the evolution of our species. But what kind of information can we obtain from the fossils of a fetus from almost 30,000 years ago? This has been investigated by a study recently published in the journal Scientific Reports and realized by Alessia Nava from ”Sapienza Università di Roma”, in collaboration with the Museum of Civilizations of Rome, Fermi Center, Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste, the Abdus Salam International Center for Theoretical Physics (ICTP), Università degli Studi di Bari and the University of Wollongong in Australia.

Trieste’s scientific system underlies the new synchrotron light lab SESAME (Synchrotron-Light for Experimental Science), that today has been officially opened near Amman in the presence of the King of Jordan. SESAME (www.sesame.org.jo) is both a major scientific project and an example of peaceful coexistence as it is managed by an autonomous intergovernmental organization of scientists from Countries racked by conflict and tension such as Cyprus, Israel, Iran, Pakistan, Turkey, Egypt, Jordan and the Palestinian Authority.
